Teenie Weenie Santa - 12/23/1945
It was a lucky thing for the Dunce that he was out shoveling snow from the Teenie Weenie walks when Santa Claus arrived. Santa hadn't had a very good report of the Dunce's behavior, and the old man was rather undecided as to whether the Dunce deserved his share of the Teenie Weenie Christmas treat. On Christmas morning the Teenie Weenies were all up at daylight. While the Cook prepared breakfast, the Dunce and Gogo went out to shovel off the snow that had fallen during the night. They swept off the front porch and had just finished cleaning the snow from the steps when they heard sleigh bells. Up in the sky they saw Santa flying toward the shoe house. The chickadee on which he rode dropped onto the toe of the shoe house, and the jangling bells around the bird's neck brought the Teenie Weenies flocking to the spot. Santa slipped down off the bird's back and smiled at the Dunce, who stood speechless on the ground below. "Well!" Santa said. "I'm glad to see you working." "Yes, sir," was all the awed Dunce could say. The General invited Santa into the house, and from the pack he carried on his back Santa gave each of the Teenie Weenies a present as well as a bag of Teenie Weenie candy as big as a cherry seed. After the presents had been handed out, the Cook brought in a cup of steaming sassafras tea which Santa drank at one gulp. Then the jolly old fellow ran out, leaped onto the back of his waiting chickadee, waved good-by and flew off almost before the Teenie Weenies had time to thank him for their presents. Most of the Teenie Weenies were too excited to eat their breakfast, but not the Dunce, for he never misses a meal. He ate eleven corn pancakes, four frog meat sausage cakes, seven Teenie Weenie doughnuts and four cups of tea with nine Teenie Weenie spoonfuls of bumblebee honey in it. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon, the Teenie Weenies sat down to their Christmas dinner. The tiny table was loaded with all sorts of good food. Besides roast frog ham there was half an acornful of mashed potato, escalloped hominy, pickled minnow craw fish salad and a mince pie as big as a 25-cent piece. The little folks had planned to go skating after dinner, but they were all so full of dinner they decided it was easier to stay in the comfortable house and amuse themselves with the new games Santa had brought. A good many napped during the afternoon, and the Dunce curled up on a caterpillar fur rug and snored right through till bedtime.
